You didn’t see that one coming, did you? It may not be one of the largest Internet service providers in the U.S., but Google Fiber takes the cake when it comes to the speeds it offers its customers.

According to HighSpeedInternet.com, which conducted millions of Internet speed tests using its internal testing tool, Google Fiber had the highest average upload and download speeds in the country. Its highest advertised speed is 2,000 Mbps download and 161.6 Mbps upload. Verizon Fios came in second place with 940 Mbps download. Next was MetroNet, Xfinity and Astound Broadband, respectively.

The study also found that ISPs across the board saw significant increases in their overall speed offerings in the last few years, with average speeds among major providers going up by as much as 192 percent between 2018 and 2021.
