Fix California Challenge Recognizes 16 Innovative Ways to Improve State

Many of the ideas have a tech component, such as “digital direct democracy,” a proposal to allow all documents in California to be signed by e-signature.

California venture capitalist Tim Draper’s nonprofit searching for innovative ideas to “Fix California” has identified 16 finalists. Draper might work to put the winner on the 2016 ballot.

Many of the ideas have a tech component, such “digital direct democracy,” a proposal to allow all documents in California to be signed by e-signature, and development of an online voter guide.

The Innovate Your State Organization said the finalists were chosen from more than 400 ideas and thousands of comments.

“The response to the Fix California Challenge has been incredible,” Draper said in a statement. “The contest has generated some thought-provoking ideas on how to improve California. Innovate Your State has reviewed all of the ideas, great and small, and narrowed down the finalists to the ‘Stately Sixteen’ for the next round of judging. Over the next month, we will give these ideas further scrutiny and call upon experts to provide additional insight until we get a winner.”

Last month Draper pitched a free one-year subscription for the OpenGov transparency platform to California counties. Draper is perhaps best known in the public eye for his controversial proposal to split California into six states.
