Jacob will continue civic innovation work by bringing the model of the office to other cities through Northeastern University's Burnes Family Center for Social Change and Innovation, according to MONUM’s website.
Jacob will stay connected with the team at Boston, holding the title of mechanic emeritus moving forward.
Jacob started working for the city of Boston in 2006 after working for several technology startups in the area. He is currently a board member for organizations including Code for America and coUrbanize, and he was also previously the urban technologist in residence at Living Cities.
MONUM was created in 2010 by Jacob and Chris Osgood to be a civic innovation incubator and research and development lab within Boston’s City Hall. The office handles projects ranging from mobility to equity. Since its formation, it has been a model for other cities, with Philadelphia launching an office of its own in 2012.
