Lawrence, Kan., Announces Departure of CIO Michael Aldridge

Aldridge, who has served as the city’s chief information officer since May 2021, will join the business development consulting firm Gartner, the city announced Tuesday. His last day in city service will be Oct. 4.

Michael Aldridge, the chief information officer in Lawrence, Kan., has accepted a new position with the business development consulting firm Gartner.

At Gartner, Aldridge will serve as the senior director analyst in business continuity management and cyber risk management, according to a city press release.

Aldridge has been CIO in Lawrence since May 2021. He joined the city in 2019 as security architect. He also served as CIO for Johnson County, Kan., from 2016 to 2018.

“I want to thank Michael for his excellent service,” Assistant City Manager Brandon McGuire, said in a statement. “During his tenure, Michael and his team established enterprise IT governance, established the project management office, implemented many IT operational best practices, conducted a cyber risk assessment and improved the technology budget and purchasing process.”

Aldridge’s final day with the city will be Oct. 4. Brian Thomas, assistant director of information technology, will take over as the interim CIO beginning Sept 25.
