Longtime San Mateo County CIO Jon Walton Departs Role

After more than eight years as CIO and director of the Information Services Department with San Mateo County, Calif., Jon Walton has stepped down. A recruitment will be conducted for a permanent replacement.

Jon Walton has stepped down from his position as San Mateo County CIO and director of the Information Services Department (ISD), a county official confirmed.

Walton’s final day with the local government was May 18, according to Chief Communications Officer Michelle Durand. He had served in the position since January 2013.

Michael Wentworth, formerly assistant CIO, will take over as ISD’s interim director until the county can conduct a recruitment for a permanent replacement. Durand noted that Wentworth is a longtime county employee.

Prior to working for San Mateo county, Walton served as the CIO of San Francisco for nearly six years. He was also deputy CIO for the city of San Jose between 1997 and 2004, according to his LinkedIn account.
