Felicia N. Thompson, senior public information officer with the city’s Information Technology Services agency (ITS), stated that Arvay accepted an opportunity in the private sector.
Hambric was named acting CIO following an internal selection process. Thompson didn’t confirm whether a national search for a permanent replacement is in motion or will occur.
Hambric has worked for ITS since 2017 as assistant CIO. In that role, he worked on a years-long, citywide effort to improve telephone and network connectivity. He also helped with initiatives that used federal pandemic relief money to provide free Internet to Phoenix residents.
With 33 years of public-sector IT experience, Hambric has a breadth of knowledge that should serve him well in his new role. His experience includes various technology positions for the U.S. House of Representatives, most recently as chief technology officer for House Information Resources, according to his LinkedIn page.
