Take time to actually read the memo from all the elections officials in the state of Florida that is linked in the article above. These are both Republicans and Democrats conducting nonpartisan elections.
OK, here are my personal beliefs:
- Forty nine years, 11 months and 23 days ago I stood up and swore an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States. That was as I entered into the U.S. Army. Nov. 15 will be my 30th year since I exited the military, but I still adhere to my oath those many years ago. I do so today, by writing this blog post.
- It is the right and responsibility of every citizen of the United States to exercise their right to vote — because you are a citizen.
- I don’t care who you vote for. You get one vote just like me.
- Denying or attempting to limit the ability of eligible voters to vote is not only wrong, it is a sin.
- Our international and internal adversaries want people to not trust our voting system. They are using every trick they can employ to make people believe that the voting system is rigged or that their vote doesn’t count.
- If who I vote for doesn’t win, so be it. Most of my adult life, the candidate that I voted for in presidential and gubernatorial elections didn’t win. But, I had my vote!
- Democracy is fragile. Ben Franklin, when asked what type of government we have, is alleged to have replied, “A republic, if you can keep it!”
- Authoritarianism around the world and here in the United States is on the rise. We all need to be aware, to be “on guard” for events swirling around us.
- For 20 years of service as an infantryman I pledged my physical life to that purpose.
