What sort of weapon will protect the USS Ponce come summer?

The weapon, called Laser Weapon System (LaWS), reportedly underwent successful testing last year and is now ready to protect the ship from small attackers in the air and on the water. The weapon is proposed as a low-cost way to defend against drones, small boats, light aircraft and missiles.
