How many U.S. police departments have partnered with Amazon’s Ring?

Answer: At least 234.

Following recent privacy concerns surrounding these partnerships, residents may be interested to find out if their local law enforcement agency has one. That’s why college senior Shreyas Gandlur created a new interactive online map of all the cities where these partnerships have been reported.

The map displays blue dots over the 234 cities, towns or counties whose police agencies have reportedly partnered with Ring. Police in these areas can request footage from residents’ Ring video doorbells via the company’s Neighbors app.

Gandlur, currently a student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, compiled the data for the map from Fight for the Future’s facial recognition technology map as well as Internet searches for social media announcements or news coverage. Therefore, there are likely agencies missing from the map because their partnerships were not publicized via social media or news outlets.
