How many COVID-19 misinformation posts has Facebook removed?

Facebook, it seems, has had its hands full attempting to combat the spread of misinformation about the coronavirus pandemic. According to the social media giant, it removed 7 million posts containing harmful misinformation about the pandemic between April and June of this year.

But that’s not all the misinformation that’s out there. Facebook also revealed that an additional 98 million posts on its platform were flagged by fact checkers and received misinformation labels. However, those 98 million posts were not taken down because they did not meet the company’s standards for removal.

According to Engadget, Facebook does not typically release statistics on its content removal efforts, but is doing so now due to its new stricter rules regarding the coronavirus pandemic. In addition to removing content, the company reports that it has been making concerted efforts to push out factual information about the pandemic, such as mask-wearing PSAs.
