New CTO Takes Helm in New Jersey

He will be responsible for the operations of the state's Office of Information Technology.

TRENTON, N.J. -- Judy Teller, CIO of New Jersey, named Charles Dawson as the state's new Chief Technology Officer.

As the CTO, Dawson will be responsible for the operations of the state's Office of Information Technology, which supports all state departments and agencies in their use of technology to enhance government services while reducing costs.

"The Chief Technology Officer plays a central role in developing the use of technology in state government," said Teller. "We are pleased to have someone with such varied experience in technology fill this important position. Mr. Dawson has had great success in both the public and private sector. He is an ideal fit for this job."

Before accepting his new position, Dawson was a vice president in the Advanced Technology and Analysis Sector of Science Applications International Corp., a privately owned, $5.9 billion, 40,000-employee science and engineering company. Prior to that, he served as President and CEO of Tiger Medical Systems Acquisition Company, Inc. He also worked as a senior executive with Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey for six years.

"New Jersey is at an important point on the road to digital government," said Dawson. "I am very excited about this opportunity to build upon the foundation that has already been established. My goal is to make New Jersey the leader in digital government."

The early part of Dawson's career was spent with New Jersey; he spent eight years with the Department of Human Services and nine years with the Department of Education and was the executive director of the New Jersey State Lottery.
