Out of your 150 Facebook friends, how many can you really count on?

Answer: Four

According to data gleaned from two studies conducted in April and May of 2015, the average number of Facebook friends of the sample group (3,375 subjects), was 150.

When asked which of their Facebook friends were actual friends, the figure came in at just 27.6 percent, CNET reported. When asked how many of those friends the subjects could count on in the event of an emotional crisis, the answer was four. The studies found little variation between age groups, and also found that those subjects with more Facebook friends than average didn’t enjoy a greater number of reliable real-world friends, but rather had cast a wider net for whom they considered Facebook friend material.
