Part of the challenge behind bringing the Internet of Things to life lies in establishing a common framework for many different kinds of devices to communicate with one another across heterogeneous networks. A new project, called Brillo, was announced at Google’s recent I/O conference, and purports to serve as just such an operating system for low-power IoT devices.
Working as a stripped-down version of Android, Brillo could run on a broad range of simple IoT devices. Using a protocol called Weave, Brillo could enable seamless interoperability across a variety of ecosystems, including Google’s own Nest devices.
More information on the new technology is available on
Brillo’s Google Developers page.
