Which law is expected to save up to $12 billion in IT spending?

Answer: the Federal Information Technology Acquisition Reform Act (FITARA)

The deadline for federal agencies to report their FITARA self-assessments to the Office of Management and Budget arrives on Aug. 15. According to a survey conducted by MeriTalk, 44 percent of respondents believe the new law governing IT purchasing, management and oversight functions will reduce duplicative IT systems. Another 41 percent of those surveyed said they believe FITARA will improve investment decisions, 40 percent said the law will improve communication and 34 percent said they believe it will improve transparency.

Many agencies are expected not to make the deadline. According to the survey, only 39 percent of participants were aware that their agency had a working group in place to manage a FITARA implementation, and only 22 percent said their agency had sufficient resources to properly implement FITARA.
