Which prominent federal agency recently turned to crowdsourcing?

Answer: NASA

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced the launch of a new website on Sept. 20 at the World Maker Faire in New York. Agency officials said the website, called NASA Solve, was created to get the public involved in NASA’s projects.

The first challenge on NASA Solve is called the Mars Balance Mass Challenge, in which participants can submit ideas for a chance to win $20,000. The challenge is "to develop ideas for how NASA can turn available entry, descent and landing balance mass on a future Mars mission into a scientific or technological payload.”
