Colab uses photos and geolocation to link residents to their city, using three different methods of engagement: reporting daily urban issues, proposing and contributing to civic projects and solutions and rating public services.
Nearly 100 submissions for the AppMyCity! 2013 contest were received. Finalists were chosen based on the quality of the user interface and the potential for the greatest impact. New York City-based PublicStuff and BuzzJourney, from Kfar-Saba, Israel, were the other two finalists in the contest.
"By connecting people to their local governments and their fellow citizens in new ways, this app has the potential to revolutionize urban governance," Mathieu Lefevre, executive director of the New Cities Foundation and AppMyCity! judge told The Atlantic Cities.
