Air travel is way up from the lows of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many airports are near or at their design capacity for handling passengers. When you add airport screening into the mix, it can mean long lines of passengers waiting for TSA to do their job.
It's just one of the options being looked at to speed up the screening process. While I love the idea of new technology, when there is a glitch in systems like they are talking about, it can become a nightmare. The reliability of any new systems will need to be a major factor in their implementation.
