Virgin Group Founder Richard Branson announced a new project this January that would bring Internet service to billions of currently unserved people through the launch of a satellite network.

The project -- to launch more than 2,000 new satellites into Earth’s orbit -- is similar to other unfinished projects announced by other companies such as Google’s Project Loon, which proposed using high-altitude balloons to deliver Internet service; COMMstellation, an MSCI project that once projected 100 percent global coverage of Internet service; and a project with four satellites already in orbit by O3b Networks.
