Mercedes-Benz developed a system called Rescue Assist, which places a QR code in two locations on their new vehicles, so responders to an emergency incident can quickly scan the code and gain information about the vehicle, bypassing a manual lookup process that could take precious moments longer.

Because Mercedes-Benz did not patent the system, other companies also can utilize it.
