To catch the attention of pedestrians and make them wait for the green light, automaker Smart installed an experimental "don’t walk" sign at an intersection in Lisbon, Portugal, that dances.

The figure dancing on the sign is a real-time, low-resolution representation of people dancing at a nearby image capture booth.

Smart says the project worked because it caused 81 percent more pedestrians to stop and wait for the green light.
