Researchers from the University of Buffalo, N. Y., developed an underwater Wi-Fi network that uses sound waves to communicate data, much as whales and dolphins do. The system could be used to help detect tsunamis and provide a more reliable warning system than what is used today. The researchers are now attempting to develop a shared standard that would allow more groups to contribute to the effort.
