Answer: Le Voyage dans la lune - otherwise known as A Trip to the Moon. The French film was made in 1902 and is famous for being the first known science fiction movie. In it, six astronomers ride a bullet-shaped spacecraft to the Moon [below]. Once there, they encounter insect-like creatures called Selenites. As is common in many modern science fiction movies, the humans in A Trip to the Moon spend much of their time killing the aliens before returning to Earth. The film was a sensation at the time of its release and continues to be admired today for its relatively innovative use of animation and special effects.
