Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Overhauls City Portal

The new online face of the city streamlines access to frequently sought information as well as other pertinent service information.

(TNS) — WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — The city of Wilkes-Barre has launched a new website designed to be more user-friendly for its residents.

The site will make it easier for people to quickly find city information, including department contacts, meeting dates, garbage collection schedules, and information on special events.

“The goal for the new website design is to provide residents with the information they are searching for as quickly and effortlessly as possible,” said Tyler Ryan, the mayor’s executive assistant. “City department heads worked together to update and streamline information for the new website launch.”

Some of the new features at www.wilkes-barre.city include:

  • An enhanced search bar that features a “Trending Searches” option.
  • A “Find It Fast” button to more quickly access information.
  • A “Citizen Action Center” section allows users to report issues; get details on garbage and recycling pickup, parking, city boards and authorities; plus see a list of city properties for sale.
  • Residents can also sign up for e-alerts to receive the latest updates from the city via email.
Ryan said in a press release the new site features a “responsive design,” so it will work well across all devices, from smartphones to desktop computers.

“Research shows that users prefer the same experience across all devices,” the release stated.

The city worked with government website specialist Virtual Towns & Schools, of Massachusetts, on the project. VTS has more than 600 municipal clients plus 20 years of experience in the field.
