However, tropical storm watches remain for the shoreline portions of Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex and New London counties.
In a hurricane statement, the National Weather Service said: “Hurricane Jose will continue to track northward through the western Atlantic waters through mid week, passing to the southeast of the area late tonight into Wednesday as a tropical storm. The system looks to be close enough for potential impacts, including tropical storm force winds, coastal flooding, and locally heavy rainfall.”
The weather service said flooding and dangerous surf are possible.
Portions of nearby Rhode Island were under a tropical storm watch, as was portions of Massachusetts including Cape Cod.
With the volatile nature of hurricane movement, residents along Connecticut’s shoreline were preparing this week for any possible impact.
Harry's Marine Repair spent the day making sure the boats in the Route 1 marina were secured to moorings.
Harry Ruppenicker, owner of the marina his family has run in town for 63 years, said he wanted to make sure the boats would not be affected by heavy winds from Hurricane Jose, which forecasters said could gust up to 40 miles an hour.
"Better safe than sorry," Ruppenicker said.
A number of officials in other shoreline communities including Westbrook and Old Saybrook have been monitoring the storm.
Westbrook emergency management officials posted on Twitter early Tuesday that the storm looked like it was tracking further east, reducing the threat to the town. But they said they are still closely monitoring.
