Maine Launches Statewide 511 Service

AUGUSTA, Maine -- The State Department of Transportation is launching a new 511 service for Maine residents and visitors to the state. Along with providing traffic and construction updates, the service will include information about Maine's parks and recreational offerings.

Once a caller has connected with the service, the directory can be accessed using a hand-free option -- a public safety feature aimed at cell phone users in cars. The department is working with a variety of telecommunications companies to make the service available statewide.
