While we obsess as a nation over when the different COVID-19 vaccines will become available, there is a vaccine available now that will prevent many deaths, and perhaps more importantly, right now and into the winter, take some heat off of the medical system.

The U.S. experienced record flu deaths in the 2017-2018 season, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). That is only a quarter of the coronavirus deaths so far this year, but still a significant number.

So, while we all wait our turn to have the new vaccines become available, take the time and get your flu shot now. They are available everywhere!!

And, they take about two weeks to provide some immunity, so the earlier the better. Don't wait for flu cases to start to uptick to get yours.

Here's an earlier Disaster Zone Podcast on the topic: "The Intersection of COVID-19 and the Annual Flu."
