FBI Representatives Meet With National League of Cities

The head of the FBI's Office of Law Enforcement Coordination is meeting with the NLC's board of directors over the changing role of federal and local law enforcement agencies and officials.

MINNETONKA, Minn. -- Representatives of the Federal Bureau of Investigation are meeting with the National League of Cities' Board of Directors Thursday through Saturday to talk about the changing local and federal law enforcement partnership.

Louis Quijas, the recently appointed head of the FBI's new Office of Law Enforcement Coordination, and Special Agent in Charge Debbie Pearce -- who oversees Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota -- were scheduled to talk with the NLC's board on Friday afternoon.

Don Borut, the NLC's executive director, has been in contact with Quijas' office since Karen Anderson, president of the NLC, sent a letter to FBI Director Robert Mueller in late June requesting a meeting to discuss strategies for working together more effectively on public safety and law enforcement issues in light of the new emphasis on counter terrorism.

Anderson told Mueller that city officials expect the FBI to continue to carry out its traditional law enforcement responsibilities in partnership with local governments despite the new emphasis on preventing terrorism.
