A Really BIG Board Game for Earthquake Response

Getting ready for the big one in the Pacific Northwest.

There was supposed to be a National Level Exercise (NLE) conducted in June of this year with widespread participation by federal agencies, states and local jurisdictions, along with the military, both active duty and National Guard. COVID-19 put a stop to that.

What has evolved is a series of tabletop exercises being held across a wide swath of jurisdictions. Today, a board game of sorts was conducted at the Washington state EOC, see this story and video: First responders use gigantic map to practice for potential 9.0 earthquake in Washington.

The three speakers featured in the video in sequence are: Willie Nunn, the new FEMA Region X administrator; Robert Ezell, Washington state Emergency Management Division; and Andrew Phelps, Oregon Office of Emergency Management.

I'll have a future Disaster Zone Podcast coming out in a few weeks that will be an interview with the new FEMA regional administrator.
