Deceptive Tactics Abound in Our Modern Media World

Even reporters need to verify and maintain strict rules to avoid being deceived.

This Washington Post story, A woman approached The Post with dramatic — and false — tale about Roy Moore. She appears to be part of undercover sting operation.

The story above reminds me of how careful we need to be today in what email links or attachments that we click on. The "deceivers" are becoming much better at sucking people into clicking on links that could lead you down a cyber-rat-hole that screws up your digital and perhaps financial life.

Everyone has to have "shields up" at all times. I suppose the fact that people are willing to lie and cheat to win at any cost should not be a surprise. It happens in sports, politics, business and I suppose, unfortunately, in government too. It is no wonder that trust is at an all-time low.

I still believe that if you want "the news," you need to stick to some of the national-level newspapers. The New York Times, Washington Post and Wall Street Journal are still respected publications that try to get it right — no matter what an individual reporter's bias might be.

I think it is critical today to get your news from multiple news sources — not just one and not just one medium. Sometimes the news can be skewed by what is or what isn't covered.
