Mudslides in California Highlight Warning Issues

We have serious problems nationally with warning systems.

Who gets warned, when, and for what reasons continues to be a significant issue in California and across the United States. See this story, California mudslides highlight difficulty in getting evacuations right.

Warnings continue to remain a sore point in our emergency management profession. It is not just California and Hawaii that have had problems. With all the issues that are being highlighted, I expect that many emergency management programs are re-examining their warning protocols.

Now is the time to fix your warning protocols for what perhaps has been lying dormant, with little attention.
