SXSW 2018: Meet the 6 Gov Tech Startup Finalists That Pitched Mayors at SXSW

Six gov tech startups pitched mayors from around the country for a chance to win $10,000. Four of the startups were also recognized GovTech 100 companies for 2018.

In what’s become an annual tradition for Civic I/O at South by Southwest, six startup companies had the opportunity to give a 5-minute pitch of their solutions to a group of mayors from across the country.

Startups that made the finals for this year included SeamlessDocs, Boundless, Citymart
, Biobot Analytics, Elucd and The Mentor Method. You can view each of the 5-minute pitch videos below as well as a link to each startup’s websites to learn more about their solutions.

Biobot Analytics (First Place Winner)

What is it: Biobot Analytics provides a technology that turns sewage into data for cities, starting with opioid usage.

Taking home first place was Biobot Analytics, a startup that transforms sewage into valuable data insights for cities. Their first focus area involves helping cities measure opioid and other drug use by analyzing digested drug metabolites, which enables cities to optimize their reduction programs with actual data.

As the winner of the competition, Biobot Analytics received $10,000 and the opportunity to pitch more than 800 mayors at the 2018 U.S. Conference of Mayors meeting in June.

Citymart (Second Place Winner)

What is it: Citymart is a solution platform for cities to frame, identify and buy solutions to their most pressing challenges.

Elucd (Third Place Winner)

What is it: Elucd provides a platform for cities to understand how citizens feel about their government in near real time.

What is it: SeamlessDocs provides a platform for digitizing and managing online forms, services and customer relationships for government agencies.
