Wireless Internet Access Now Available in Jefferson County, Ky., Judicial Center

"As I waited to hear my name called for cases, I kept thinking about how much more attractive jury duty would be to busy professionals if there was a way to connect back to our offices, when time permitted."

Jefferson County, Ky., Circuit Court Clerk David Nicholson last week announced the availability of free, high-speed, wireless Internet access in key areas within the Jefferson County Judicial Center.

Smoothstone IP Communications is providing this service free of charge as a public service to jurors, attorneys and other members of the public who visit the judicial center. The service can accommodate hundreds of simultaneous Internet users and is available in the jury pool area, the Louisville Bar Association room and common areas on the second floor.

"I am thrilled to be partnering with one of Louisville's outstanding corporate citizens to provide Internet access to both jurors and other individuals doing business with the courts," said Nicholson. "We see this project as a way to effectively use technology to improve service."

"I was recently called for jury duty and while I was proud to serve as a juror, doing so involved some downtime," said Drew Allgeier, Smoothstone's vice president of business development. "As I waited to hear my name called for cases, I kept thinking about how much more attractive jury duty would be to busy professionals if there was a way to connect back to our offices, when time permitted. My friend, Benham Sims, had the same idea. The service we are announcing today is a result of our collective efforts. Smoothstone is proud to provide this public service to such an important facility in our home town."

The high-speed, wireless Internet access service is open to the public and is accessible from any wireless network ready laptop, cell phone or other device, similar to other wireless "hot spots" in Louisville's Wi-Fi Hotspot Program.
