Disaster Zone: Heat Waves in the Pacific Northwest

What should we be doing now to plan for the next one?

One of the primary things I’ll remember about the summer of 2021 is how heat and drought dominated the news and led, of course, to a significant wildfire season that is burning now and won’t stop for months to come.

See my most recent Disaster Zone column for the Municipal Research Services Center (MRSC): “Disaster Zone: Heat Waves in the Pacific Northwest.”

Yes, it is true that the event is in our rear view mirror now, but I see it as a harbinger of future summers of heat. We don’t need to wait until the next one is upon us to start planning our actions. Do check out the book Heat that I reference in the column. It is well worth reading.
