Colorado Springs to Host ‘Living With Wildfire’ Town Hall

Attendees will learn of the ongoing threat of wildfires, how to prepare their homes for wildfire season and how to be notified of an emergency along with information on evacuations in an emergency.

(TNS) - The first of three "Living with Wildfire" town halls is scheduled Tuesday, according to a news release from the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

The first town hall is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Colorado Springs Masonic Center, where representatives from the fire department's wildfire mitigation team, El Paso County 911 Authority, the Pikes Peak Regional Office of Emergency Management, the Colorado Springs Police Department and others will give updates and information ahead for the wildfire season.

Fire officials said residents will learn of the ongoing threat of wildfires, how to prepare their homes for wildfire season, how to be notified of an emergency and what to include in their own emergency plans along with information on evacuations in case of an emergency.

Also, eligible residents will have the chance to sign up for the fire department's Neighborhood Chipping Program and the city's emergency alerts, Peak Alerts.

Representatives from Colorado Springs Utilities , Parks and Recreation and city forestry will be available to answer questions. The presentation is expected to last about one hour, officials said.

Additional "Living with Wildfire" town halls events are scheduled for May 14 at the Heart of the Springs Church and June 25 at the Cheyenne Mountain Junior High School .
