Michigan CIO Brom Stibitz Heading to the Private Sector

Brom Stibitz announced yesterday he will step down from his role as Michigan CIO and director of the Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB), with Oct. 16 being his final day.

According to DTMB Communications Specialist Laura Wotruba, Stibitz has accepted a position in the private sector with the Municipal Employees’ Retirement Systems of Michigan.

While Wotruba stated the replacement for the CIO role will be determined at a later time, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced Julia Dale will become the director of DTMB.
Dale has more than a decade of public-sector experience with the state, most recently serving in the Office of the Attorney General. Before that, she worked at the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.

In the announcement, Whitmer credited Stibitz for his leadership through the transition to remote work during the pandemic.

Stibitz was named CIO in March 2020 after serving the state in various roles since 2011. In October 2020, Stibitz took on the additional role of DTMB’s director.

Other Michigan CIOs had taken on this additional role, such as David DeVries, the last official state CIO before Stibitz.

Prior to being named CIO, Stibitz was the chief deputy director of DTMB. Before that, he served the Michigan Department of Treasury following five years with the Michigan House of Representatives.
