Now she’s the new commissioner of the NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY), as announced by Mayor Eric Adams yesterday.
Tisch became NYC’s CIO and commissioner of the city’s Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT) in December 2019. Adams recently appointed Matt Fraser to the roles of CTO and commissioner of DoITT.
In Tisch’s new role with DSNY, she will oversee tasks like waste collection, recycling and snow removal for the city.
“Clean, safe neighborhoods will power New York City’s recovery, and innovations in composting, recycling, and collection will secure our future,” said Tisch in the announcement.
On the day of Tisch’s appointment, she and Adams announced a commitment of $11 million to street-cleaning initiatives.
During her transition away from the CIO position, she stated to her colleagues in an email that she would be working for the city in another capacity, as a city spokesperson shared with Government Technology.
She highlighted accomplishments from her time as CIO in the email, including Wi-Fi installation in shelters and expanding on the city’s 311 service capacity.
Tisch was also a key member of the city’s pandemic response team throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, which involved supporting the shift to digital government services and remote learning.
Prior to her time with DoITT, Tisch worked for NYPD as deputy commissioner of information technology.
