A Republican governor, a Democratic attorney general running for governor, a request for disputed e-mail records spurred by the firing of the governor's general counsel, led to a protracted 13-month $600,000 legal and political battle that now appears to be over. The case, originally scheduled to go to trial January 5, was settled as the Governor's Office turned over e-mail records. Governor Blunt also instituted an e-mail archive system and has charged that the Attorney General's Office has refused to archive its own e-mails.
