Doug King, a RootMetrics director, credited investments by the major wireless services to improve Denver customers’ call quality, mobile data speeds and network performance in the second half of 2017. Verizon won RootMetrics’ award for best overall performance in Denver. T-Mobile scored the fastest median upload speed at 8.3 mbps, which meant uploading a photo to a social media site took four seconds.
But Denver’s still in the bottom half of the nation. During the test period, Sprint’s upload speed declined to 2.2 mbps, from 6.2 mbps previously. Denver’s fastest download speeds of 17.9 mbps paled to national champ Cleveland, Ohio. Speeds in Cleveland topped the nation thanks to T-Mobile’s 42.9 mbps download speed and 17.9 mbps up.
At least Denver fared better than Colorado Springs, which landed at No. 110, up from 112 a year ago. Tests showed fewer dropped calls but a “general increase in blocked calls across all carriers,” King said. “It will be interesting to see how these different performance trends observed in Denver and Colorado Springs will impact the Colorado state results in our upcoming national report.”
