Tieton, Wash., Celebrates Launch of New Internet Service

Three years ago, Washington Broadband purchased 40 miles of an old TV cable system running in the region, and has converted it to a two-way, fiber-fed Internet system one community at a time.

(TNS) — Tieton, Wash., officials will celebrate the activation of new cable and fiber optic internet service Friday.

An official ribbon-cutting with Washington Broadband, Tieton Mayor Dewane Ashbrooks and local residents is planned at 1:30 p.m. Friday at City Hall, 418 Maple St., Tieton, according to a news release from the company.

Three years ago, Washington Broadband purchased 40 miles of an old TV cable system running in North Selah, Gleed, Naches, Tieton and Cowiche, and has been converting it to a two-way, fiber-fed Internet system one community at a time. Tieton and Naches have been activated so far.

The company said it is the largest rural wireless high-speed internet provider in Upper Yakima County, serving thousands of customers from Naches to Moxee, Wenas to Zillah, and the West Valley-Tampico areas.
