Laura Meixell Jumps from Pittsburgh to Allegheny County, Pa.

Meixell, who served for more than five years of tech and innovation work for the city, will be joining the region’s county government as enterprise data architect.

After more than five years doing tech and innovation work for Pittsburgh, Laura Meixell has taken a position with the county that is home to that city.

Meixell announced the switch this week on Twitter, noting that she has now joined the Allegheny County, Pa., Department of Human Services as enterprise data architect. Prior to the move, her position with Pittsburgh was assistant director of digital services.

Some personal news... after 5.5 years w/ @CityPGH and @PghIP I am moving on. I'm proud of how hard we tried and the change we made! Also super excited to join the brilliant team @ACDHS and keep making technology enabled social progress in Pittsburgh! — Laura Meixell (@lauratypes) June 11, 2019
While with the city, Meixell established herself as a leading presence in municipal tech work. In fact, earlier this year she was named chairwoman of the Civic Analytics Network, an advisory group made up of chief data officers and others who hold similar positions within city halls around the country.

Pittsburgh recently hired a new director for its innovation team, but before that, Meixell was one of the most visible leaders within city hall tech and innovation work. In fact, her departure tweet even drew a grateful response from Pittsburgh’s mayor.

Thank you for your leadership & vision. You have given Pittsburgh a new foundation of data & built a transparent city government for the betterment of all. Looking forward to continue working with you on City-County initiatives. — bill peduto (@billpeduto) June 11, 2019
As Meixell noted, leaving the city for a position with the county that it calls home will enable her to continue working with technology to improve the region.
