German architect Andre Broessel has designed this glass globe that he claims can concentrate sunlight and even moonlight by 10,000 times, resulting in a solar power system that is 35 percent more efficient than traditional photovoltaic designs.

Whether or not that proves to be the case remains to be seen. But we want to shine a light on the innovative ideas -- the soft infrastructure -- that have the potential to become transformative.
