Mark Ghilarducci and California Brace for Epic Drought, Fire

California's drought is forcing disaster managers to strategize about water conservation.

California is experiencing the worst drought in its history, despite a few storms of late. Officials, including Mark Ghilarducci, director of the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, are planning for a hot, dry summer and an intense fire season.

The fire season has already proved to be busier than last year, and California officials were prepared having hired more firefighters and readied more assets before the blazes started.

Ghilarducci spoke at the April 15 Emergency Management Summit in San Francisco about educating the public on conservation issues and the toll that such an epic drought will have on all sectors of the state. Ghilarducci also discussed the variability of California, which could suffer through an epic drought, as it is now, and a year later have to mitigate heavy flooding.
