The new MetaMorpho AFIS from SAGEM Morpho includes the ability to capture palm prints and integrates a Morpho Archive and Retrieval System (MARS). The palm print processing ability is added to the department's fingerprint collection, and also to its forensic systems for processing latent prints left at crime scenes. This represents a significant improvement in the NYPD's ability to efficiently solve many crimes.
The company has also delivered the data from a conversion of approximately two million previously captured fingerprint record cards, which completes the initial population of the NYPD's MARS, a significant milestone in the department's multiyear upgrade plan of its entire fingerprint collection, identification and storage system. The completion of this installation, coupled with integration of the NYPD's new Integrated LiveScan System, will allow the NYPD to process fingerprints and palm prints in a more paperless environment.
