Gov. Pete Ricketts appointed Ed Toner as the state’s new lead of technology. Toner, who replaces CIO Brenda Decker, serves as IT director of global infrastructure operations at First Data Corporation, an Omaha-based payments company. Nebraska radio station KFOR 1240 AM reported that Ricketts appointed Toner for his private-sector experience and the potential for new innovations in government.
Decker has been the state's CIO since Feb. 4, 2005, when she was appointed by then-Gov. Dave Heineman. In her 10 years as the state's tech chief, Decker has helped the state build a broadband network with the lowest Internet costs in the nation and has played a role in making FirstNet work.
In 2003, she was recognized as one of Government Technology's Top 25 Doers, Dreamers and Drivers.
