At the State of GovTech event in San Francisco last month, startups and investors gathered alongside innovators in government to discuss the growing market of tech companies pointing their solutions squarely at the public sector. Collectively, the group made an effective case for paying attention to the market, as well as engaging new talent when developing public-sector IT tools.

Senior Management Analyst Rebecca Woodbury of San Rafael, Calif., talked at the event about how the city's quest to expand digital services led them to partner with technology startups on a couple of critical projects.
