According to an IDC whitepaper, "the data center is at the heart of organizations' efforts to provide products and services to individuals and businesses."
And the number of data centers and data center assets is growing, according to the paper, called The Datacenter's Role in Delivering Business Innovation: Using DCIM to Enable a Common Management Approach.
Even when excluding smaller server rooms -- and server closets in small businesses and remote branch offices -- "the number of data centers in operation worldwide will increase from over 191,000 to almost 202,000 between 2011 and 2014."
With this many data centers out there, things are bound to go wrong. Here are some barriers seen in datacenters worldwide:
