What do cockroaches, traffic jams and root canals have in common?

January 10, 2013 By

Answer: They are more popular than Congress

It seems like talks of the fiscal cliff and Congress have pushed citizens over the edge. In a recent survey conducted by Public Policy Polling, most respondents stated that social nuisances like traffic jams, undergoing painstaking root canals and dealing with creepy cockroaches were more bearable than Congress.

In addition, people were more favorable toward head lice, replacement NFL referees (gasp) and colonoscopies. But the news isn't all that bad for Congress, whose popularity is still higher than Keeping Up With the Kardashians, playground bullies and meth labs. According to the survey, Congress currently has an overall favorability rate of 9 percent.

We may have reached the point that citizens take control of their government by abolishing the congress and starting over. We could start by making the "seniority" system un-constitutional. Like unions, this system ensures that only the crud rises to the top. Next, have the states pay salary and benefits for congress members, and set term limits, so citizens can reign in the largess. Further, allow no campaign funding from other than state residents, including corporations headquartered in the state. These few changes would greatly help put control back where it belongs - with citizens.

Those rankings seem pretty accurate. However, I can't believe the favorability rate is 9%. That seems pretty high to me. @Dave - I like the way you think.

I am with you Dave! Time for We The People to take back our country and rights. Impeach all current congress members and start over. One state = one representative that is paid by their home state. No more number of reps because of population numbers in a state. No more free rides on the American tax payers' backs. They have to contribute to SS just like everyone else. They have to participate in teh same health care that everyone else does too. Make one change - no lawyer can be a member of congress. We ahve the supreme court to determine the legality of laws and don't need more lawyers contributing to the problem.

Well I guess the ill-informed electorate is alive and well in the IT blogosphere. Welcome to the alternate universe! Curmudgeons arise!
