How accurate is this gun-detecting AI?

Answer: 99 percent.

And it can notify law enforcement immediately.

Designed with active shooter scenarios in mind, Athena Security’s camera system uses the cloud to send notifications when a gun is detected. Engadget reports that the artificial intelligence (AI) doing the weapons detection has an accuracy rate of 99 percent, according to the company.

But the system can do even more, including streaming real-time footage to responders through an app. It can also be paired with third-party security systems in order to shut down elevators and lock doors remotely.

The system is currently in use at Archbishop Wood High School in Warminster, Pa. Since the gun detection is so accurate, the company is working on including recognition of other dangerous scenarios, such as knives and fist fights.
