NASA Releases 9/11 Footage Shot Aboard the ISS

September 9, 2011 By

As the only American not on the Earth on September 11, 2001, astronaut Frank Culbertson found himself in a terrible yet unique position. He and two Russian cosmonauts were aboard the International Space Station, which just happened to be orbiting high above New York City that day. In this new video released by NASA, Culbertson recounts what it was like witnessing 9/11 from space.

Very touching

Viewing the events of 9/11 in New York from this perspective makes you realize just how physically insignificant the events were to America as a whole. Not to downplay the significance of the loss of life, but it does justify the reason why 9/11 didn't break the American spirit. We always think of things from the surface, but if we look at the big picture like this we realize that this too shall pass.

Kevin - not to get all over you about your statement, but that is like telling someone who has been shot with a .38 that at least it is only one hole in your body.
