The second annual Best of Georgia Awards were presented Wednesday evening in Atlanta, emceed by Cobb County Director of Information Services Paul Ruth, and sponsored by Hewlett-Packard, Imprivata, Novell and SimDesk.
The awards were held overlooking the city atop the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce building. The five awards -- for redefining government, growing Georgia, educating Georgia, keeping Georgia healthy, and keeping Georgia safe -- reflect Governor Perdue's priorities for his Commission for a New Georgia. Of 25 submissions, five winners were selected.
Best Application of a Government Organization: Redefining Government in Georgia
The winner is the Georgia Department of Transportation for its Transportation Explorer.
Best Application of a Government Organization: Growing Georgia
The winner is the City of Rockmart for its Technology Enhancement and Consolidation program.
Best Application of a Government Organization: Educating Georgia
The winner is the Department of Juvenile Justice for its Education Module of the Juvenile Tracking System.
Best Application of a Government Organization: Keeping Georgia Healthy
The winner is the Department of Juvenile Justice for its Medical and Behavior Health Modules of the Juvenile Tracking System.
Best Application of a Government Organization: Keeping Georgia Safe The winner is the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Georgia Crime Information Center for its JIMNet application.
